National Night Out

Elburn participated in the National Night out last night. It is an event held across the country every August 1, and is to promote community relations with city police forces. We were treated to dinner, games, bounce houses, swag, and a chance to look at a bunch of police cars and fire trucks. Everyone enjoyed themselves... K. (whose life goal is to become a police officer) was in heaven. Though he did have what seemed to be a bit of stage fright when confronted with ACTUAL REAL LIVE POLICE OFFICERS who TRIED TO TALK TO HIM. I've never seen him become so self-conscious except for actual stage fright in the Christmas pageant. I knew the minute we got home, he would start talking about it non-stop, and I was right.

I have to say, I kind of like this small-town-thing. While there were people who attended, it was manageable. No one had to wait very long (if at all) to do the activities they wanted to do, and no one seemed to care (well, except to admire and pet) that A. brought a puppy into the building with the food. It was all terribly relaxed, and we had a good time.

They had a place where people could use a fire extinguisher to put out a grill fire.

An obstacle course was set-up, where at the end you had to use a hose to knock down the 'fire' in the wooden building's windows. Everyone (meaning G., L., K., Y., and even R.) tried it at least once. I'll spare you the pictures of each of them, because they all pretty much look the same. This one is of L. and K.

They got to sit in police cars, and even turn on the sirens.

K. again, because it's cute.

Finally, yet one more picture of K., who I think needs to grow a bit before becoming a full-fledged emergency worker.
